It depends, on a few things: How stiff is the vinyl? If it is stiff, it probably doesn't have much life left. How does it look? is it faded? Does it have stains? If it looks good, it might be worth fixing. How much does a patch cost? If it is more than 20 bucks, you might want to have it recovered. If you like me, A patch might annoy you. How much do you want to spend? I know at the Upholstery shop i worked at, we charged about 75-80$ to recover a seat, no foam work. Think of the benefits of a new cover. It looks good, will last you along time, not to mention you can get custom stitching and vinyl if you want.
or if you can try upholstery your self. All you need is a heat gun or hot hair dryer and an electric or nematic staple gun.

Duct tape looks decent if applied properly and holds up for at least a year of riding.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Also, there are premade seat covers

Post by coffeekittie »

I've seen them up for bid at EBay - spoke to the guy and he said they come in black only but they look pretty decent in the pics....

Edited to add: they seem to be going for around $30 plus s&h.

Seat covers

I carry new seat covers. They have the Honda logo on the rear. They look awsome when installed.
$35.00 including delivery.
Let me know, greg

Seat cover vs Recovering the seat (hee)

Post by coffeekittie »

Gosh - wish I'd known that! I spent $100 on getting my badly torn seat recovered. I mean, it looks amazing but not $65 worth of amazing. Ah well.
