Bleeding the oil system

I recently changed the oil and had some questions a few weeks back and finally had time to bleed the oil system and just wanted to check that i got everything right. so here is what i did

1. disconnected the oil inlet line from the oil pump and let oil flow from oil tank until it was a steady stream.

2. pumped oil into oil pump at the fitting for the oil inlet line.

3. reconnected oil inlet line.

4. disconnected the oil outlet line.

5. pumped oil into oil outlet fitting on oil pump.

6. pumped oil thru oil outlet line while disconnected.

7. reconnected oil outlet line to oil pump.

8. started engine and let run to ensure oil was pumping thru the pump.

9. reconnected oil outlet line.

I think i did everything right and i just wanted to check to be 100% sure.

also when i started the engine and let it run to ensure oil was actually pumping thru the pump it was a very slow drip. I remember reading a few weeks back that the oil pump only pumps something like between every 5-10 seconds, or a very small amount. I wanted to be sure that is also correct because that is what it did and I am just hoping that is normal and everything is operating good.

I replaced my oil and gas lines with Tygon tubing a while back. It makes bleeding soooo much easier, you can see any air bubbles. I would strongly suggest anyone who hasn't replaced the stock tubing with Tygon do so at their earliest convience.

You've got it right, the only thing that I would add is that periodically you need to check the bolt that holds on the oil pump. It has a tendency to back itself out, which makes the oil pump not work.

what type of tygon tubing would you buy if you were going to do this?

Tygon F-4040-A. I think I used some 1/8" and some 3/16" ID size. The 1/8" for the smaller petcock to carb and oil pump to carb connections, and the 3/16" for the larger petcock to carb and the oil tank to pump connections. Works great, no leaks, happy camper.

If you can't find the stuff, check mower repair shops. You only need like a foot or so of each length. I think I paid about $3 total from a shop called MowerMD.
