No current to coil

Post by d4founta »

I had my spree running great and was driving it everyday to and from class but two weeks ago going down a hill it just shut off and now will not start. The coil is not getting any current, so the problem is back from there. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know getting a CDI(i think thats what it is called), along with a starter relay would be a good start, but is there anyway to test these devices before I blow more money? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks-

Grease all your electrical connections, check you pickup.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Stupid Question I know....

Where is the fuse on this thing? Is it inline or is there an actual fusebox of sorts? Thanks!

There is one inline fuse on the small hot wire that hooks to the battery, the fuse is in a small white holder that clips to the side of the battery box, the big line is just for feeding the starter and has no fuse.

No FUSE!

Post by d4founta »

I checked for this fuse connected to the battery box. I can see where this fuse once was however it looks like a previous owner has cut this inline fuse out and has replaced it with a standard slide connector (like the two connections off the 1985 coils). So now I have eliminated that as a possible cause.... Whats next? Thanks!

Next Step

Should I be looking to buy any new electrical components? How can I test the CDI and starter relay and such? I want to get this baby running again... I'm spending WAY too much money on driving my car around town everyday!

Thanks-

I'd be a little suspicious of what caused the former owner to have a need to bypass the fuse...you may not be the first person having electrical problems with that scoot. be patient, electrical problems take time to diagnose

Test the cdi box, get a service manual form the tech docs section of this site and see if the cdi will switch on and off.
