New Project [cool name here] Mini Bike

Post by Dac »

so now that scrap metal is up from $60 a ton to $240 a ton i decided to turn in all my scrap metal for a quick buck. When i was there, something cough my eye....
Image
it took me a few looks before i realized what i was looking at.
It looks very rusty, but it is only a tin layer of rust. There is no damaging rust. that effects the frame or anything. The tires both are kinda shoot, but still usable. I ended up buying it.
It really is a cool looking bike. I mean, its got the front and back pegs. Its got a good chain. And, in the middle of the bike there is a onboard clutch.
I found this " build a mini bike ToDo list"

[+]Find a good frame with handle bars and forks.
[+]Find good tires
[+]Find a motor.
[+]Get motor running good
[+]Get motor mounted
[+]Get Gas Tank
[+]Mount Gas tank.
[+]Rig up a braking system
[+]Fine tune braking system
[+]Run all need cables needed
[+]Make kill switch.
[+]Make a seat.
[+]Make foot pegs
[-]Make any other personal things.

+ = Done
- = Not Done.

so yeah, i got a ways to go. But so far i think im doing good on parts.
i got 3 motors to choose from.
A 4hp 2stroke engine(might run)(really weird mounting)
A 7hp 4stroke engine(use to run)(missing at the moment)
A 5hp Briggs and straghten motor (semi running) (perfect)

Im working like crazy right now, so i dont have a ton of time to work on this bike. But i will keep you all posted.

i like Rusty because its sort, simple, and it desribes it.

But i do plain on painting this thing. I just want to get it working good first. No since in painting a frame if it turns out i cant get it going.

But yeah, i might just call it Rusty for now. But i will need a new name after its painted.

5hp briggs with the gov disabled, at the speed those thing spool up to you could probably make 55, just gear it right unless you want to fix a snapped rod. Plus those little panhead Briggs engines from the 70s run forever no matter what as long as you keep em full of oil.

I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

[Note-The seat is not going to last. i just put it there for a second and forgot to take it off]

A few hours with that 5hp Biggs i got it running. Then i mounted it up and i was in shock. The motor fit like a dream! Everything Perfect!
Now all i got to do is take off the belt pulley the motor has on it now and put a sprocket on there. Finish the brakes, and run a cable or two.

Then after everything is done. and the bike works. i get to tear it all back apart and paint it.

yeah i guess.

I do have some big ideas for it. So i mean, i dont want to trash it. But these bikes are kinda hard to trash. There is nothing that can really break. So, yeah, it is my new beater.
But its also my new project.
