New Spree owner w/ problems
Hey all, I recently purchased an 86 Spree with 71 miles on it. I paid 150 bucks for it, and everything on it visually is in top condition, it doesnt even look like anyones sat on it before.
It does not run correctly however.
Ive cleaned the petcock, and carburator a few times. Im convinced that the carb is perfect condition at this point. The jets and the emulsion tubes have nothing clogging them.
I have spark, airflow, and gas. It will start up on the first kick. When it does, its at full throttle, so I looked at the throttle cable, its fine.
Could this be my bystarter/choke? Lemme know!

(FYI -- This should go in the technical help forum -- and welcome)
Could be, but sounds more likely to be dirty carb. The bystarter only runs off the alternator. Try this:
With the bike cold (like real cold...first thing in the morning), take the bystarter out and look at how far the brass collar is away from the plastic part. You can also measure the distance from the plastic to the tip of the needle. Then start the bike, and ride it around for like 10 minutes. The top of the bystarter should get very warm. Shut the bike off and immediately pull the bystarter and measure the distance. If the needle moved about 1/8 inch outward, the bystarter is working properly.
