1988 honda elite lx sa50 starting problems

Post by dei4life38 »

I just brought a 88 honda elite lx and am having trouble getting it to start. I have spark, have fuel, and have compression. I just need to know what else am I missing to get it started. I did notice that the spark plug was extreme wet when I pulled it out after trying to get it started. What does this mean I need to do? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure the airfilter and airbox lid are clean/in good shape ( if the filter isnt 1/2 inch thick and spongy toss it and buy a new one).
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

It does not have a air filter box. The air filter is a foam air cleaner. Do you think that a new carburettor will solve the problem

The bystarter is a plastic apperatus that is attached to the top of the carb by a bracket and 2 screws, there is wiring coming off of it to a wiring bundle.

Cleaning the carb is prolly a good start 1st, I took mine to a small engine reapir and they usually have a carb cleaning thingie it can soak and aggitate in...cost me 20 bucks. Myabe try starting it by restricting the air to the carb by using fingers to cover up the entrance port from the airbox, if your gastank is dirty or rusty on the inside it can glog the jets and little holes gas must flow in the carb.
