Sensitive throttle, air intake, problems running.
I recently installed a new bystarter into my 84 spree, thinking it was my only big problem, but I am still experiencing quite a few hiccups. I am still having to plug the air intake when starting it, and I don't know how to fix this. It starts after a few tries and runs to some extent, but sounds like the engine is flooding. When I go to use the throttle it is so sensitive that at the slightest touch the engine revs really high and stays like this for a while. I am new at this and don't have any experience, so I may be missing something totally obvious. I've been referring to the mechanical docs but I must be overlooking or not reading into the problems properly. Any ideas? I really wish I could get this up before summer ends...it is so short here!

Sounds like your top screw to carb needs adjusting. Tighten all the way to the right and come out 2 complete turns then start it up....you may have to turn it to the left a bit more...I think mine is about 3 turns out while my middle screw is 2 1/4 turns out. I 've read each scooter is different but there is a starting point for all.

You have your carb setup wrong, out that far and it will run too hot, the middle (air screw) should be out 1 7/8 and never needs adjustment, top screw adjust for nice idle.Mackeral61 wrote:Sounds like your top screw to carb needs adjusting. I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
