Honda Elite 50S 1987 Service Manual

Post by 88lowrider »

Hi.
I have downloaded the 1988 - 2001 manual but found it different from my 1987 ES50 Elite.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of at least the electrical section of the 1987 manual ?

I am fighting a weak spark issue and can't even find the CDI unit on mine without taking the whole thing apart.
I tested the coil but need to test other items.

Thanks for your help.

Dont you mean SE50?[/u]
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

I downloaded the 88 - 93 manual and its not the same as mine.
Mine has battery up under the seat just in between the fuel tank and oil tank.

Will this board allow me to upload pictures of it ?
Thanks again.

I have the same scoot, and the motor is the same but the layout of things on the scooter is different. so the manual won't help for everything. you can totally upload pics to this site and the people here are sharp as * and will be able to help just by seeing whats in a picture.

Once it stops raining, I will go uncover it and get some pictures.
I also need to take the pressure washer to it as she is pretty dirty under the the side covers. I can see now I have to take better care of her.

I am looking for the CDI unit on mine and its not around the battery that I can find.
If I knew a manual would be of My scooter with all the illustrations of My scoot, I would order one and share the parts that are different.
I also noticed that the color coding on the wiring is different on mine as the regulator wiring are at least different from the manuals that are available for downloading.

Do you know were your CDI is located ?..

ok, my cdi is next to the fuse holder on the battery box. I don't really know what you have to take off to get to it, i needed to tear my entire scooter apart so i didn't pay attention to what panels came off when...i don't know if that helps but i hope it does.

That is the Same Scooter, Same Color and everthing, well, almost, mine has Way more dirt on it :-)

I seen that thing and the only thing to do to get to it was to pull the right side cover off. In fact, I might have been able to get to that without pulling the cover.

I looked at both manuals that are available (88 and newer) as well as the Spree manual looking for the pin out/color code for testing.
Everything is different then ours.

My plan was to Junk out my Honda Spree for parts - if they would interchange After testing to make sure I found what was bad.
I was hoping not to just start replacing things in hopes to get the spark back where it belongs.
I have spark but its so weak that its really hard to see.
The old spark plug that was in it was one of those with the tiny point contact and you could see a faint spark. The stock plug I got from the Honda shop, no spark shows at all. I tested the coil, ohms wise, and it showed to be within the tolerances they gave for 88 and newer.

So to continue the plan, its testing all the parts with the instructions on the shop manual to find what is bad.
I seen the Alternator might be the culprit too, just don't have those pages of the manual for the testing information.

I just need to find someone that has that manual, then I can post the pages we need.

What started this whole adventure was the fact that it used to be hard starting, now No starting.

Thanks for the images, I really appreciate your time and effort.

I looked mine over real well.
I also tore into the 1986 Honda Spree to see what it had.

The item you have in the picture turns out to be a Relay just so you know. It has two big wires and two smaller wires on it.
Once looking up the number, Mitsuba RC-2208, they show it as a Headlight relay for one. Nevertheless, its not our CDI unit.

I looked All over for anything in that area and can recognize all the items found...

Next is to pull off the front fairing and see what is up that way.

I did get the CDI off the Honda Spree and can't find anything on the Elite that is like it so far..

Wouldn't be in the fairing, start tracing wires, that relay is for the starter.

The wiring is the same as the picture above, a wad of wire goes around the front of the, I guess you could call it the seat tower into a rubber bag, which I opened to see just connections to the carb and motor.
The rest of that wad of wire goes up to the front.

The wiring harness above shows #1 being the CDI and the image of that looks like the same thing I took off the Honda Spree.

After reading about those CDI's, the are the thing that limits RPM's and speed. If the one off the Spree works, I get spark back, then it might go slower due to its limit in that CDI.
Anyway, I am just trying to find out why my spark is weak.
I am hoping its not the Alt were that all has to come down to be fixed.
Will keep looking.
