Hello All,
I have a 1987 Honda Spree and it does about 31 mph. on the flat, wonder if there is an easy way to get it to go about 40 mph. and what would have to be done to get her there. One problem I find I'm having, but do not know if it is common in the sprees is when at a stop light/sign it's away sluggish when taking off (she does not want to kill out, just sluggish). And 2nd problem I'm having is when I come up to a yield sign or slow down to turn a corner and then go full throttle after taking the turn she sounds like she wants to kill out for a few seconds then she gets back up to speed. The Spree ran that way since I bought her earlyer this last spring, but I feel I should do something before it goes wrong. If anyone has any advice please let me know, I'd be thankful. Thank You for reading my post.

Re: Speedy Spree!
That's already above average for having done nothing to it...cowboy71 wrote:Hello All,

40 on a Spree really is a pipe dream. You've got a fairly fast one there already. You might be able to easily squeeze an MPH or two out, but probably not a whole lot more without serious mods to the point where it would be simpler and easier to get a bigger/better bike.cowboy71 wrote:wonder if there is an easy way to get it to go about 40 mph. and what would have to be done to get her there.
They're all like that, although I've heard tell that the Iowa Spree (yes, they made a special model for sale just for Iowa) had a significantly better take off than the rest of them.cowboy71 wrote:One problem I find I'm having, but do not know if it is common in the sprees is when at a stop light/sign it's away sluggish when taking off (she does not want to kill out, just sluggish).
Clean the carb and decarbonize the muffler and that problem will go away. If not, do a plug chop. I recommend replacing the oil and gas lines with Tygon 4040A so that you can see the fluids in the hoses. Make sure you're using decent 2 stroke injector oil (Honda GN2 if in doubt), make sure the lines are bled and make sure the oil pump is working and that the bolt holding the pump on is tight.cowboy71 wrote:And 2nd problem I'm having is when I come up to a yield sign or slow down to turn a corner and then go full throttle after taking the turn she sounds like she wants to kill out for a few seconds then she gets back up to speed. Welcome, and you're welcome.cowboy71 wrote:If anyone has any advice please let me know, I'd be thankful. Thank You for reading my post.

Thanks for the reply CharlotteSpreeRider, I'll clean the carb and decarbonize the muffler and but first I'll have to find out how to decarbonize a muffler, how do you do a plug chop? Sorry I'm new to all of this and my first moped was a 1978 Honda Express NC50. She treated me well for the 18 yrs. I've owned the her, but I sold the moped last fall because she was getting to be to much work with the carb alone (cleanning about twice a month and the smell of gas all the time). I did my research and spoke to a few of my friends to see what scooter would treat me well, and I'm still learning. Thanks for the advice again
