Bogs down and dies when accelerating
My 86 spree starts and idles good but bogs down and dies when accelerated. I changed the plug, new oil, gas, air filter, and cleaned the carb. It has been sitting up for over 15 years and was glad to just get it going. Now I need help in getting it to run at higher speed.

I'm having the exact same problem with my SE50P, I removed the muffler to eliminate that as the problem and it still does it. Starts right up without any problems and Idles properly, as soon as I hit the throttle it bogs down and dies. I checked my spark and it seems to be weak. The spark is not a healthy blue, I'm thinking it's the coil or the CDI unit.

I appriciate the offer and will definately take you up on it if I can't get it going. I just got power back tonight from last sunday's storm and have been itching to get the elite working again, I've been tinkering with it using a latern, lol. I'm in Bloomfield hills, bout 30 mins. from Fraser (used to date a chick from Fraser).mopedman wrote:

The reason i'm thinking it's because of weak spark is when it's idling the weak spark is giving enough spark to fire the strokes but when more gas is dumped into the cylinder it bogs it down, too much fuel, not enough spark. I checked compression and it's pulling a solid 116 PSI with a high quality tester...

well i have a 1995 elite s, if i ride it over to your house we can just try the coil off my bike, it sounds to me like its getting tooo much air.

I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

I ran it best I could and pulled the plug. I was a new plug and I ran it for maybe 10 minutes off and on due to the dying. When I pulled it it looked like half the tip was black and the other half clean. The black looked a little oily but no oil on the white half. I didn't notice when I put the plug in but it looked like the middle part (where the spark comes out) was not centered in the plug. Could this be a problem?
I had the exact same problem with my '86 Spree which had been sitting for twenty years. Just fixed it today. There is a brass looking tube the throttle needle goes into. It is under a jet which screws into the carb. You have to take the carb off, take the float bowl off, unscrew the jet and push this tube out of the bottom of the carb. There are eight (I think) holes in the side of the tube you need to make sure are cleaned out. I then sprayed carb cleaner through the holes and the tube. The carb sitting in carb cleaner overnight did not clean them.
One of the tech articles here say not to use anything metal to push the tube out. I used a small wooden dowel I sanded down to the right size. The bike ran great after reinstalling. Hope this helps.
