Got the new parts, rings and gaskets, spent two hours trying to put the jug back on with no luck My patience has run out trying to get this thing to start. should I take it to a repair shop and bite the bullet or throw the engine in a box, and send it to one of you to fix it?
So I am into this thing alredy $125 and you are right= Honda service will want more than that to get it on the road. What would you do I really like the cute lil bugger but not that much- I really need an elite or sumpin that will go over 35.....
i would get it bake together running good, clean it up, sell it buy and elite, whats your problem, you cant get the rings to go in??? are you using a ring compressor, i guess i could fix it for you if you really need some one too. were do you live.... If you ship it to me or bring it to me if you live close, i could get it back together for you
Just my advice,,, with the cylinder off oil the cylinder and work the piston/rings partially into the cylinder but not so far as you cant push the wrist/ piston pin in, push the pin in and install the retainers. MAKE SURE you have the EX marking on the piston facing the EXhaust port!
Bustduster, I already have the cylinder off-that's my problem. I can't get it back on over the new rings,,,I tried so hard I broke the top ring so now I have to buy more Are you saying take the piston off the the rod and put it in the cylinder past the rings and then put the piston back on? And what is a ring compressor...I read the service manual how to install rings it never mentioned the ring compressor
You dont need a ring comp. The bottom of the jug is cut so you can slide the piston in easy. Make sure that you line the ring gap up with the stop on the piston and push it in. (lots of oil)
Yes remove the piston from the rod and get it started into the cylinder, I tried the way you are and also broke a ring, one of these days I'll come across another ring and take it back apart to install. (running with one ring)
If you can run on one ring, I should be able to run on a new bottom ring and the old top ring. Guess I wasn't using enough oil= I will use more next try.
I don't want to take off the piston, then I won't be able to get IT back on
I wiil take the engine off frame so I can put it on my workbench and reach it easier////

theres your problem right there.... you need to take your engine off, it makes working 3,000,000 times better
