Elite 50 SR vs. Elite 50 S

Post by Surfing »

Hi. Just wondering what are the differences between the SR and S models. Seems the engine is the same. My neighbor has a SA50P, S model and I have an SA50, SR model.

Just starting to learn about it. These seem to be great machines on two wheels w/great gas mileage and resale value. Thanks for all your input.

Aloha!

I was told the SR has more horsepower than the S, therefore the SR falls in the category of scooter. The SR requires a license plate, safety check, insurance, and scooter drivers license, because of the hp being over 2hp, to operate legally on the street in certain states. Haven't confirmed if it's all true.

That is true but trust me, nobody cares, just lie when you register it. Tons of people in MI are on this board (where its gotta be 2hp and under 30 to be a ped) and most SA50 owners are making more power and speed than that, half of them are well over the 50cc limit as well, all run moped stickers.

Cant believe the people at the SOS dont notice a bunch of people registering various scooters/peds ending with 50 and dont make the connection that the numbers at the end of the model designate the CC. They must not care.

The SR has a 78 main jet where the S has a 68.

The SR does not have a restrictor plate on the variator like the S does, though it can be easily removed from the S.

anyone know if I can get a moped sticker from MI and legally ride in Ohio?

Each state has to honor other states' requirements. The only thing is that I think you have to change to a state's requirements if you live there for more than 30 days or something, which would ruin it.

so what's the deal with them? are they connected to a title and therefore a specific VIN#?

I'm totally cool with skirting the law on this, but I don't want to land myself in a *. If I got pulled over would they be able to tell that it wasn't legit?

I was considering just having someone (perhaps a relative of mine) register the thing in MI and then just have them sell it to me or something.
