what is it for and do i need any special tools outside of a impact gun to take it off?

it make you back wheel spin when you hit so many rpm and it should just come off with an impact

Best thing is a strap wrench. These are available at Lowe's in a 2-size set
with plastic handles- but I spent about $18.00 at Sears and got one with a solid aluminum handle- the Klein ones are great, but way more expensive.

The benefits of spending decent money for a decent tool is self-explanatory. This made removing the clutch a breeze! And it's beefy enough to handle my other restoration project- a 14,000 pound armoured personnel carrier called a Humber Pig. (Ex-British Army)

The Spree should get slightly better gas mileage, however...
