So Ive been rebuilding my 87 elite now for a couple months. FINALLY got it running friday night.,..got all the plastics on. rode it around our property (live on a little farm) no problems. Took in on the rode, opened it up...started pooring smoke and than just died... its late and dark..no parts stores opened til morning. Pushed it to my sisters house for the night. what type of oil do you have in it????
you got to run 2 stroke oil. (2 stroke injectore oil to be exact.)((Honda Gn2 stroke injector oil is the best))

Has to be injector oil.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

I would think that as long as it makes it to the cylinder, regular 2-cycle would lubricate better because its thicker, but it gums everything up very badly because it doesn't burn nearly as cleanly as injector oil. You'll need to check out the exhaust port for build up, as well as clean out your muffler. Get a new plug and if you're ambitious, check the head and piston for buildup too.
You can find GN2 at your local honda dealer.
