need more speed for se50

Post by WillyPhister »

I recently bought a an 87 elite se50p and I really like it but I need some more speed. It cruises at 27 mph, but I would like to get it close to 40 without killing the bottom end but I dont have alot of cash to spend. The exhaust manifold on it is terrible, its basically straight 3/4 inch tubing welded at angles to get to the muffler and most of the exhaust is escaping at the flange. So I need a new exhaust first but I cant afford a fancy Italian tuned pipe at the moment and I dont want to pay $100 for a new stock exhaust, does any one have a spare exhaust for sale at a reasonable price. I bought a factory Honda replacement piston thats a llittle larger for worn out bores to get some compression back, it was only 25 bucks. Its still in the mail but was this a good buy, I dont have the cash for a big bore kit. Im gona buy a speed variator as well, are the KELI ones on ebay any good? I also saw a preformance cdi on ebay too http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0267778040
Is this a gimmick? Are the se50p's restricted by the cdi? I also have a non running 1985 aero 50, is there anything I can use from that to get my elite going faster? I already tried the exhaust but that doesnt fit. What else can I do to get more speed that doesnt cost a ton?

They are restricted in the front pulley and the exhaust, people have gotten stock ignitions cranking 11k rpm.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

look into finding a muffler for sure. if u do have the restricted one, the SE50S muffler will give u 5mph. change out your ramp plate in the variator to. those two things alone will give u more top end. the racing CDI, my opinion, thier a waste of money. 8)

Sounds like the variator plate was removed but ramp hasn't been changed. I think I have the keli variator, i'm happy with it.

ya, you deffinitly need to find an exhaust. se50p has a horrible exhaust to restrict it. should be able to find one for 40 or 50 shipped

like others saide. you need to get a high speed vaiator and a new ramp plate.

after that, your looking at spending some real money

and cdis are a waste, stock is fine
