1986 Honda Aero Makeing Funny Noise

Post by playingwithmud »

I dont know why im posting this but my Aero50 started to make a noise right after I removed all the body parts off of it. Im working on fiberglassing all the cracks on them and im still driving it. I have yet to look into it and its only been doing it for 2 days but it sounds like a scraping noise at idle right by were it looks to be a cooling fan. As sone as I give it gas it gose away and then it makes a squeaking noise when im up to speed and cruesing. I was just kinda wondering what im going to be looking for when I take it apart or if there is a common problem that I should be looking for. Its sounds to me like its pretty much about to lock up but the thing dont bog or has no loss of power at all. Alot of my friends cringe at the sound its making. Thanks for who ever posts and ill let you know what I find when I take it apart tomorrow.

Sounds like the cooling shroud got mis aligned at some point. Now at low RPM's its rubbing the fan on the shroud, and at higher RPM's the fan flexes some and its not rubbing so the sound goes away.

Just a guess, I'm sure someone else may chime in.

Thats what im pretty sure of is the problem as well. I was just wondering if there is some sorta common problem that people are having and what the fix is. I tryed moving the sroud around with my hand well it was running and the sound dont change so im almost worried its the crank moving around inside the fan. I dotn know if they are key wayed or how they are held on but it sounds to me like its wobbleing around on the shaft and if it is what is an easy fix or something. Thanks for the comment and ill let you guys know what I find when I pull it apart. Im sure its nothing too bad that I cant rig haha.

I pulled the fan sroud off and then pulled the fan off and found nothing to be wrong. i started it up and it still made the noise. i could not get the wheel off behind the fan witch is the genorator or tells the engine when to fire but I will try again after work to get it off. It sounds pretty bad and im afraid it sound more like a bearing or something binding or lose. Is there any way or were would I be able to post a video of this doing it so you guys could hear it. It sounds pretty cool haha. It runs and drives great but seems to be backfireing when cranking.

haha never mind it was my hill billy rig job on the other side of the crank. The variator was spinning on the crank shaft because it sheared off the key way I put in it. Im now making my own key way to get me by.
