Help my friend out...

Post by ecarter330 »

My buddy derestricted his Elite 50 S well half derestricted it... he removed the plate, and drilled out the washer in the head pipe. the bike ran great for about 2-3 minutes now it just starts up runs boggy and dies at like 10 mph... is this because he didnt derestict the airbox and rejet the bike?

hard to say.. would need more info to help diagnose.

Check sparkplug, check compression, is it getting gas? Oil? Is airbox and clamp sealed?

I would doubt it's bc you didn't rejet, if its still stock overall.
projects galore :nerd:

plug chop
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark on this one.

Since you derestricted the exhaust, you would now be moving more air through the engine.

Being that you can now move air faster through the pipe with less restriction, you are also moving more air through the carb.

So it could be possible that you had some small junk built up in the carb and being able to move more air through the motor you may have dislodged it clogging something up.

It sounds to me like a carb problem. The first thing I would do is take the carb off and clean it throughly. A good carb cleaning is a good thing to do on an Elite anyways.
