ZX or SEF Ramps? What's the difference?

Post by Elite-ist »

That about covers it! I was told a SEF is better for a highly modded engine... Why is that? Any anecdotal evidence concerning durability comparisons? I think I am going to go with a Keli pulley if that makes any difference.

Call VT
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Because its a PhpBB forum. I own and operate one too and have the same problems as well as know of several others that have spam problems.

But anyways back to topic. I was going to start a new topic but I might as well ask here if the poster does not mind.

I see the Keli variators come with the rollers but no ramp plate so you need to use the stock ramp plate. Can I use a different ramp plate then a stock one with the Keli, if that makes sense?

Strange, I asked Daywot if his Keli variators came with a ramp plate and he told me no, He said it was designed to be used with the factory ramp plate.

After him telling me that, I wondered if you could use an aftermarket variator, and an after market ramp plate to gain a little more top end by pushing the belt up even more. I dont know how high up the belt goes on an after market variator so it was just a thought I was having.

Heres the message I got through eBay:

Hi, thanks for your interest. This variator does not come with a ramp plate. It is designed to be used with your factory ramp plate.

keli vari should come with matching back plate, stock one is not the same and I would doubt it would work the same.

Probably states that so you buy the matching keli plate separately and spend more money.. just a guess

SEF ramp is supposed to have better angles
projects galore :nerd:

The Keli pulley I got came with original stock packaging and included weights but no ramp. I understand they are packaged seperately.

Yes - they told me to use a "zx" type or an "SEF" type.

Do you think this would work even a tiny bit better than a zx on a gear modded -but not engine modded - SA50 with a Keli pulley?

I did verify with another shop that the kelli pulleys no longer come with ramps so its sef or daytona #3 ramp and it will give you more top end if your scoot is properly derestricted.

Seem's to me that I will be better off going with a different brand than Keli. How are those Prodigy variators?

I guess I got one of the few Keli's that came with ramp plate, I made sure from Keoni since I had the restricted ramp on my 87 Elite. I saw Daywot's Keli Variator and it was in identical package as the one I recieved from VTCycles. Daywot also told me his is designed to use stock ramp and he has ramps for $10. Sucks for any se50P owners!
