blowing belts

Post by brad_659 »

i had a belt stretch out and stop gripping pulleys on my 85 spree so i decided to put a new belt and clutch on, and by new i mean new to me but actually old as s*** as all spree parts are. basically i did the belt/clutch and drove my spree for about 20 mins and the belt exploded and almost blew my motor.....there were hundereds of shreds of the belt in the case so i cleaned it all out and put as new belt on and the scooter was fine until today when the same thing happened again...belt exploded in the case....so i came to the conclusion that it had to be somthing funny with the clutch that was shredding the belts under alot of pressure so i put yet another new belt on and my old clutch on and we will see how things go.

if anyone has any thoughts as to how this may have been happening or what i can do to stop it or if there is anyone who can please explain in detail how to do the 1/2inch belt and speed pully mod and where i can buy the parts required....because if i can just upgrade that stuff id rather do that then just continuing to buy used garb.

thanks guys,
Brad

You probably missed a washer somewhere and * the alignment.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Look at the blow-up diagram of the front pulley. That's the one that you can assemble wrong.

Why keep buying used belts when you can get a new one from Honda for $30?
