Dio Gears in a SE50?

It seems as there may be some differences in shaft length for different model's. I definitely had to machine mine in order to get the case to close. It's not the washer spacing that prevented it in my case, it was the actual length of the shaft.

Outch... possibly the spacing between that gear that slides onto the countergear and the inside of the case is not correct. If you have a pair of calipers and a straight edge, measure the distance and shim accordingly. i think the problem is the gear isn't pressed onto it, and it has room to wiggle. Its making a chatter noise at idle
i really don't think machining the gears is necessary. It just lets you use the washers that the dio has in it.

hmmmm..... so if you had no spacers/washers it would't close? thats wierd
if i can just get the correct amount of spacing i think i'll be good to go. Im really thinking of jb welding them together, only problem is if it doesn't work and i want them apart, itll be a nightmare cleaning that stuff out.

so im pretty sure ive got mine perfected. at this point im 100% happy with it. I managed to get the perfect fit with washers. I took out the washer from my spree motor gears and it happened to be the perfect thickness. I know its perfect because i had another washer that had to have been within 1/32 and the rear wheel would lockup when i tightened it all down
and i figured out the noise i was hearing was actually coming from my plastic floorboard

maybe that is why your other one is making funny noises and not performing. Definitely, I agree... I wasn't expecting to gain any performance from machining it, but there was physically no way to install the gears without having them machined. my drill bits should be here any day, to drill main jets, but i'll have a few weeks of break in before i'll figure out my top speed

what are you running for a variator? that would make a differance also .

just play with differant roller weights. that can make a big differance. Keoni of VT cycles can give you great info. is this a big bore?? if so the variaor would be a big kick. with the right clutch springs and the contra spring you should see a nice gain.

I got a variator from VT cycles before I put the gears in. I installed the weights that came with it. I probably need to order a set of various weights and a spring. It might be on hold for a while since I just bought an r6 this past weekend. (The mopeds got me back into motorcycles again. hey nothing wrong with a motorcycle i ride a 07 CVO Roadking Harley.. Some real good headwork, set of cams, supertrapp pipe and a good tune with the SERT.. runs good for a huge bagger.. Been riding motorcycles since 1958. still like to ride and build hotrods out of the cycles and scooters.

On my 98 elite S (purple)..I put dio gears 16x42..and they fit like a glove...I guess the 94-01 SA50 S block is the exact same as the dio...all my upgrades all say dio..and they all work beautifully..and fit like a glove..
