high idle

Post by 84 spree NQ50 »

after removing and cleaning the carburetor, Bistarter valve and putting in a new petcock, I'm riding again but the idle seems way too high, what's the best way to approach this? I've set the idle crew and throttle to service manual specs.

Set the brass screw to 1.5 turns out, set the other screw(the one with the phillips head and exposed spring) as low as you want.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

if your adjustments are pretty close to the specs, it sounds like a air leak. Did you check your throttle cable too? it might be binding and pulling the throttle? As kenny said try manually adjusting the carb to make sure, sometimes different bikes have different idle settings. The way to check for air leaks is when the bike is running spray a little carb or brake clean on the manifold, do it in small amounts if not it might be hard to place the leak. If it is leaking the idle should drop almost immediately.
