Piston Rings

Post by austin07 »

I have a 88 Honda Elite LX. I just got new piston rings, and read both the manual and tech docs, great resources here.

I am just confused on 1 thing though, the manual states to install the rings with the marks up. Is there a way to put the rings on backwards?
The marks do not look any different as far as which way is up.

Both sides of the rings have black on them, so I am not sure which way is up.

Not quite sure how the rings can go on backwards but if it is possible, I would be the one to do it!!

the rings have to line up with these little metal things when going back together.

they are not on top of each other, but they are both on the back side of the piston. When putting the piston in the cylinder, the closing of the rings have to face AWAY from the exhaust port.

thanks that clears it up a little, but what I was looking at is see how the ring tips have the / \ angle on there within the mark on the piston?

the rings I have are | |, so is it that as long as there facing away from the exhaust side and within the markings on the piston, I am okay?
