Hi new member with a spree Seeing advice!

Post by Mrkunio »

First off, Hello everyone! I would definitely like to thank everyone for their tech saviness on the forum! I've already read through about 100+ posts in the last 24 hours!

I bought my red '84 spree yesterday and it runs pretty great! This morning I looked over the bike and discovered that my little spree doesn't have an air filter in the box (its completely empty) :? Where can I get one of these? Is there anything else i can use for the time being. I know these bikes can be pretty tricky at times and don't want to risk any debris going into her.

When I bought her yesterday, she ran great ripping up and down the street as I test rode it. After, I popped it in my truck and hauled her back to my house where she went up the street, but died shortly after, and continued to die for the rest of the day. I woke up early and took the side covers off for a good look at the carb and lines. Everything looked great and clean but she still wouldn't stay running if I was riding it. I took the advice of most people on the forum and tweaked my fuel mixture up a little bit with no luck still... Almost at my wits end, I decided to drain a little bit of gas out the carb, seal it up and redo the mixture control. VROOOM, I started her up and let her puke a buncha smoke outta the pipe, but it did the trick. I was tearing up my neighborhood for about 10 minutes today, and even had time to go for a 15 minute cruise at night! *wonders what happened*

Anyways, I hope to be throwing some new rubbers on her soon, and fixing the rear brake cable (its frozen up >.<) but other than that, what a cool bike! (seems way faster than my QT50 that I used to have)

Thanks! -pics to come, shes pretty clean!

I get my airfilters at the local Honda dealer for about $5 bucks.
It sounds like maybe you need to clean your gas tank and petcock...could be sucking up crud....

Good luck!

Welcome. I'm new here too - bought a red '84 Spree couple weeks back as well. FINALLY got it running reliably - thanks to all the great advice I've gotten on this forum. All I need now is a new bystarter, which should be installed by end of week.

I named my li'll red bomb 'Pasquale' (I name all my machines - I'm not normal. :P )

The scoot doesn't have the guts my long gone '66 Vespa SS did, nor the auto trans my equally gone '81 Honda Passport offered. But its electrics are more reliable than my also-gone '73 Prince Of Lucas Bonneville's, and what it lacks in Teutonic attitude my once-owned '65 EarlesFork 500 BMW spewed, Pasquale more than makes up for in charm.

But enough about me. Enjoy your scoot. I wish I could help with your questions, but I'm a noob and haven't traded my dunce cap for a Spree mortarboard just yet.
