OK, so here's a questions that should give you an idea of my relative ignorance of all things Yamaha. What are the years/models of the various Yamaha scoots? For Honda, it's something like

50cc 2 stroke
84-87 Honda Spree. Non-tunable transmission
83-86 Honda Aero. Variator, 85-86 Aero similar engine to later 88-93 Elite
87-93 SE50 Elite. Variator
87-?? SB50 Elite. Non-tunable transmission
94-2002 SA50 Elite. Variator transmission

Actually, I'm not even sure all the above is quite right. The 87-93 Elites went by SE and SA designations interchangably during that time. The '83 Aero was an orphan, I think the '84 might have been too.

Can anyone give me this breakdown, or point me to a site that has it?

the 83 and 84 aeros where allot different then everything else. im not sure what the deal is with those.I believe its more like...

83-84 Honda Aero. Variator
84-87 Honda Spree. Non-tunable transmission
85-86 Aero similar engine to later 88-93 Elite
87-93 SE50 Elite. Variator
88-89 SB50 Elite. Non-tunable transmission
94-2002 SA50 Elite. Variator transmission

and if the elite ended in 2001 or 2002 seems to be a big mystery.

but yeah, off the top of my head im not sure with yamaha. If we are talking yamaha scooters. there's the razz/riva. The Jog. The Zuma. and the Vino.

I know with yamaha its also hard because their motors where also VERTICAL or HORIZONTAL. And there is chain/belt. Allot more variations.

Also, can someone give me a list of the current major Yamaha scooter forums?

For Honda scoots and mopeds, there's expresslymopeds (hard site to use) and mopedarmy (which is moped-only and thus Express only.)

There are other scooter sites, but my experience has been that they are about Vespas and the like. Nothing wrong with Vespas, but I don't think we need another forum on those.

i dont want to mix the hole site into yamahas, that just kills the honda community, BUT i totally agree with what you are saying about this site being a better community.

what i think could be done is to add a yamaha category. something like...
ImageImage
The site was made from the love a sprees. Why kill that? instead we could just add a yamaha spot. for all the yamaha discussion.

Sadly, i have seen more and more people getting jogs. And im seeing a few jog topics that i really would not like to see on the site, but i totally understand why people are posting them.

that is kinda the point of "General Chit-Chat" though. I dont know, ill contact noiseguy with a link to this topic and see what he says.

i think thats a PERFECT IDEA! i dont want this spree forum to flood with Yamaha stuff. hence the forum name of "hondaspree.net"

OK, so what I did was add a specific non-Honda section. And if we're going to discuss non-Honda scoots, we need a non-Honda tech docs to stuff manuals into. I don't know what it will be used for exactly, so let's see what happens. Once we see how it goes we can make adjustments.

I need any and all documentation of Yamaha service and owners manuals. Any tech docs specific to Yamahas (like their funky chain drives) would be good too. PM me if you have anything to contribute.

Question!

Where can we just talk about (non-honda brand) mopeds/scooters?

you have a
-Non-Honda Technical Help
-Non-Honda Technical Documents

where can we just talk about our non honda rides?

i would like to post a topic about my Trac, maybe even a topic about my old jog before it got destroyed. But i dont want to post in the wrong section of the site. :?:
