89 elite tech. engine info
ok so here it goes...i bought this 89 elite and found out that some 89 engines can be modified to increase its cc, speed, and top end...and some engines can not be modified...so my question is wat 89 elite engines can b modified? and the engines that can be modified wat mods can u do to get it from stock speed of 35 to at least 55mph or even 65mph?
If you want 55-65mph you would need...
1) A big bore kit
2) High speed pulley
3) (this is the big one) Dio gears put in the trans
Read through the thread linked below. If it seems like too much for you, then you'll have to live with ~45mph or sell it and buy a '94-'01 elite.

it depends on what motor you have.
look under your floor bored and there is a sticker on the frame, it has the vin number, the make, the model, and it will say SB50 or SA50.
If its an SB50 it is slow, and its not getting any faster.
If its an SA50 then it should do like 35mph stock. And you can buy parts for it. But as for 55-65, you will need to sell that and buy a 94-01 honda elite. Or you could just buy a 94-01 honda elite motor and put in there. The 94-01 motors are highly modable and can be made to go 90mph+.

i really don't care about the cost becuase i've been saving like a mad man haha just so i can build the scooter....but what is stock speed on an sb50? well mine does go 35mph stock so i am guessing it is an sa50 motor but i would have to check when i go home...but as for droping in a 94-01 motor to the frame...is it a direct fit/bolt on or would frame modifications be made? and one thing i forgot to mention was the wheels of the scooter? what is the specs. for the wheels since the guy i previously bought it from sanded down the info on the tire size and etc.? and how big can i go on tires? and for buying tubes can i just use regular bike tubes from a bike shop? because i have no clue on where to get tubes for this scooter?
a 94+ motor will d*** near drop right in, only thing needed is two little washers, but luckily the SA50 motor comes with like 4-5 of them. They old the belt case in place well you put in the bolts, so you can use two of them with no bad effects.
IF you have money, Get a 94+ motor. The motor you have now is not the best for modding, it had been done, but the 94+ will go waaaay faster per $.
of for tires, there 3x10. You can buy tubes from honda.
People often put 3.5x10 on there bikes. I dont think you can go any bigger then that.

alright sweet....so the next question is does it matter if its a sa50 or sa50p for the 94-01 elite engines.........and why aren't sb50 elite engines moddable? and are there any links for people or people who've done this engine mod swap?
p.s. thanks again guys you guys are the best at what you do lol........"helping a brotha out"

SA50/SA50P, there the same.
Same with the elite S or elite Sr.
There the same, only difference is if it comes with restrictions or not.
the SB50 is just a slow motor. the trans isnt variable. Its like a car stuck in second gear,Take off is slow, and top end isnt great. That and the cylinder on it is super small and bore kits would be a waste of money. I have an SB50 elite sitting in my garage. I also have an 92 SA50 frame and motor out there.
The 88-93 motors have a variable trans, meaning its a good motor to mod. but the way the crank and case is set up, its not as good as modding as the 94+ motors. The 94+ motors are great for modding. every part or the motor can be replaced with a performance part.
The motor swap has been done many times. But mainly in hawaii. Ill look around and see if i can find some pictures of this being done before.
Is yours a SA50? or a SB50?
If your bike is a SA50 then its a direct drop in. If yours is an sb50 then there might be slight mods needed. ill see what i can find out.

ohh alrighty...thanks dac for your help....so which sa50 motor isn't restricted but i don't know yet if its an sa50 or sb50 cuz i'm still here at work....and to find out it should be located on the left side of the frame i believe? or is it on the engine itself? i believe its a sa50 but i may be wrong and if it is an sb50 if i drop a 94 sa engine i doubt there would have to be cutting and welding fabrications right?
Elite S = washer in the top of the exhaust, but a better pipe if you take that out. There is also a small plate in the trans, easy to remove.
Elite Sr = Tail pipe is slightly smaller, but the trans does not have that plate.
The sticker under the middle of the floor bored on the left side. It has the vin and all the info. If it is an elite SB50 in not 100% sure on how the motor will fit in. A spree motor is the same as SB50. I know the shock is like a spree, and when people put 88-93 motors on spree (a common swap for people who cant find a dio) they have to put a odd piece of pipe, but you can avoid welding.
If it is a SB50, those have super light frames, so speed will be cheaper.
Oh, and this might help...
Honda SB50
Honda SA50
Dont look at the motors and whatnot, just the over all body style.

hey thanks a bunch dac...so yeah jst got back from work and yeah i checked under the scoot frame on the left and checked the sticker and its confirmed that it is in fact a sb50
i was so hoping for a sa.... so yeah now the research is to see wat little and cheap mods i can do to get from 35mph to just 45mph...if i find that there is more into doing that and if its a waste of time and isnt worth it then from there i would go ahead and do the 94sa swap

start looking for a 94+ motor dude,
The SB50s are a dead end.
The SB50 is the same as a spree motor. Not one part can be bought.
Maybe people do there own mods to try and get every last mph, and 45mph without a motor swap is a tuners dream.
Matter a fact 35mph is d*** good for an SB50.
