On the Spree, Aero, and Elite, the cooling fan actually pulls air from up underneath the seat, around the cylinder and blows it OUT through the fan shroud on the side. That's why each of the two rear body panels has three little intake vents near the floor of the scooter. That's also why the fan shroud has a baffle on the FRONT of it (Aero). All you have to do is look that the direction of the fins on the fan to see this. A custom scoop directing "high pressure air" INTO the black fan shroud on the right side of the scooter is either not doing anything or it's probably a good idea to remove it before it causes your motor to overheat.

you know, i was looking at some fan shrouds today that had my kinda confused.

I think your wrong. I could be wrong, But i think your wrong.

The way the top of the fan shroud is designed it would make no since at all for the air to be coming from there. But needless to say i will head out to my shed and investigate your theory once the sun comes up.

What bike are you basing your idea from? I do believe there is some models of scooters that have the back words fans, but im not that Honda have that set up.
I know with my elites, if im out riding and i go through allot of leafs the leaves will all be sucked in opening of my fan shroud. If the fan blew out air it would blow the leafs away. But instead it sucks them in so i have to think your wrong. But you might be onto something. maybe not all honda s are like that. Please tell me what motor you are basing your thoughts off of?

Dac is right, with the Honda motors that is. The fan sucks the air in from the shroud and directs it upward towards the head. It may be different with others.

Get some talc powder out and give it a shot. I think the intake is to the fan as well, but my Spree is put away and I can't check it.

The fan sucks air in on my Elite. I know this for a fact, as dac said his sucks leaves, so does mine. When I remove long grass or leaves from mine you can see it still trying to suck them in. I take my Elite off road all the time and I always have to be careful and make sure I stop and pull the grtass and leaves off of it while riding so that it does not over heat.

Yeah, this is a really easy debate to solve. No need to reason out which way the air is going as you can just a sheet of paper and stick it in front of the fan with the engine running...hopefully nobody needs me to explain how this works as a test LOL

OK, I'm sure now that the fan sucks air through the fan opening and out the top. This is how I'd remembered it and I verified it with someone else.... Moses, does your scooter run? Is it blowing air out the shroud? If it does you may have the wrong fan in place.

i guess people can have thier own opinions, but im sticking with ram air. the fan does suck the air through the fan shrout and if u see the curved fan tips, it blows the air to the head keeping the temps down on the head. most of scooters ive worked on, people put the heads on wrong and end up seizing the engine and wonder why the engine wont start. i think with the fin in place on the fan shrout, u will scoop more air and force it trough the engine keeping it cooler. thats just me anyway.

this is completely false and would not make much engineering sense. the fan blows air over the cylinder and sucks it in on muffler side, virtually EVERY AC type scooter engine is setup this way.

On the Dio engines, the air is sucked in from the exhaust/silencer side, pulled into through the shroud, through the cooling fins (spark plug area) and out the left side where your carb/manifold sits. The fan shroud consists of 2 pieces, the big (grill) portion and the backside piece where the air actually exits. If you have any doubt, grab a shopping bag (plastic) and place it near the fan, it'll suck it right up.

The little holes on the panels is to help keep everything else well ventilated. Since the engine radiates heat to everything else (seat, bucket if you have one, electrical systems, etc.), it's to help with circulating some air in those areas.

the only reason you are worried about your temp is that they don't make gears for your scoot, my aero idles at 350 degrees and a cool 750 at a max run
