FIXED!!! YAY!!! I had a broken wire...now for the tuning...what notch should the needle be in??

d*** thing....been running excellent all week and then today I ran to McDonalds to grab a burger and shut it off, went inside and came back back out maybe 5 minutes later and NO START. So I walk home and get my truck pick it up. Check for spark; good! Plug looked perfect too, nice and brown. Just in case I changed the plug and still no start. Carb is all new and if I choke by hand a little gas runs out the intake side of the carb after a few seconds which tells me I am getting gas. Like I said, it was running perfect when I turned it off. PLEASE help, need to get the ole girl going again.

Compression?
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Bottom end leak? Reeds? Pull the sparkplug and the fan cover,spin the engine over by hand with ear next to plug hole, should hear a pop near bottom of stroke and have bottom end compression.

Honda say 113 psi minimum for compression.

Anymore than 100 is acceptable though. I seem to have good bottom end compression as I distinctley hear a pop when I turn the fan. I guess I am going to pull the head this evening and see what she looks like. The reeds look perfect, clean and tight. They are opening like they are supposed to if I pull the intake and turn the engine over. Any other ideas???

Interesting statement, but my Honda manual flat out says "113 PSI MINIMUM". I don't believe 100 PSI is compatible with the factory manual.

So first your compression was 95, now its 101-102?

Sounds to me like you need to re ring it.

Bear is right, if Honda says the minimum is 113 then it should be more then that. For how finicky these small motors are you should get it up to spec. That could be a good reason why you had it running but couldnt get it tuned properly so you took it to a shop. Its going to be real hard to tune a motor that has low compression.

never been to a shop. I will figure this little scoot out. The reason for the different readings was a junk gauge. The problem with re ringing is I don't know what size rings to get. How can I meausure this?

You pull the jug (cylinder) and measure the diameter of the piston. Standard is 40.955mm to 40.970mm or 1.6124" to 1.6130 4mm from the bottom of the piston skirt.

Try pouring a tablespoon of oil down the plughole and then try to start it. If it suddenly runs like a raped ape after that till you shut down and let it cool down again it needs a rebuild.

let me rephrase...never worked on by a shop. I got aggravated and took it but they never worked on it which as far as I am concerned is a good thing. I haven't had a chance to fool with it anymore but I am hoping to later tonight. Thanks!
