how do i determine which engine?

Post by squid1 »

i can not locate a vin sticker on what i believe to be a 1989 honda elite e. how can i determine which engine i have? i bought the bike because it was represented with an sa50 and after looking here i wanted one i can tinker with and tweek. the owner said it was an SA50 but the engine id# i found on the left side reads AFO5E-2607140. does this confirm that its an sb50? if so i am gonna be *! any help would be appreciated. thank you!
here is the link for what i bought from e-bay:

You want to look for a AF16 engine.

Yeah dude, the motor is not an SA50, he stated it was in the auction. I would e-mail him and ask him what your supposed to do with it now.

dispute it on ebay. they will usually make a misrepresenting seller refund the purchase. i emailed that dummy and told him it was an sb50. he insisted it was sa50. dumbass. how much did you get it for if you dont mind me asking? i might be interested in some parts off of it! are the body panels in good shape?

thank you all for the information and advice. its very appreciated. the body panels are all shot, which i didnt mind as i thought i was getting a good engine/frame and was planning on playing around with the rest and looking for body panels myself. i paid $200 cash (if it seems to good to be true it probably is huh!?). now, is this thing good for anything? i realize it has no power but is the sb50 engine at least durable? is there anything good about it? repair parts etc available? i realize i cant tweek it and play with it the way i was planning but it does run good. i am thinking of trimming the panels and making it presentable and leaving it at my parents summer bungalow down the jersey shore as an errand runner. then its back to shopping for something else and making SURE of what i am getting this time! any thoughts? thanks again!

i love my elite e! its not that its slow, mine runs great and gets up to 30mph quickly enough, but thats it. 30 on flat, 30 uphill, maybe 36 or 37 down a hill, 30 pretty much everywhere. WOT all day long, i think it likes it. i just like how it looks like a mini-elite. i guess i like small scooters, even non-modifiable ones.

I rode my wife's Elite E (also an 89) for a few months this summer.
I had a great time. Slow take off, but after 12mph, zips up to @30mph in seconds, and I weigh 250lbs. If I could change the take off, I would in a heartbeat. But for city driving where the limit is 25, it was perfect.

Thats how a tuned up spree runs, gets to 12-15 then them motor hits the power band and HOLD ON!

i put heavier clutch springs in mine, it helped take off a lot, they use a two shoe clutch but it uses the same springs as nb/se/sa50, just only two!

Good idea, let it rev closer to the powah band before dumping the clutch.
