i dont want to die on a spree
i have an iowa spree what can be done with in reason to make it go about 30 or 35 it goes like 22 l
i live in flint so im not likely to get pulled over for any broken moped laws and id rather not get ran over and live any way so i have read about the .5 in belt what if its not coged my jet is a 65 i belive had it out was looking at it earyler and i was riding it today starts no ether needed starts every time and it takes off fast but when i hit mid range on the throttle it goes smooth up to 22 23 mph any more gas it bogs out wont stall just runs sluggish although im perplexed that when the air screw is all the way in it dont stall out rite away

It is an Iowa Spree. As I recall Iowa says the top speed of a moped is 25 mph where the other 49 states and the rest of the world say 30. Check old posts for Iowa restrictions that need to be removed. Make sure the exhaust is not clogged with carbon. I prefer the lye cleaning method.

Let's give it a try, how hard could it be?

I'm willing to bet your carb is dirty and you're missing something significant from the air cleaner side of the carb. Look at the service manual and check to see what's missing and that you have a filter element in place.timcat wrote:i have an iowa spree what can be done with in reason to make it go about 30 or 35 it goes like 22 li live in flint so im not likely to get pulled over for any broken moped laws and id rather not get ran over and live any way so i have read about the .5 in belt what if its not coged my jet is a 65 i belive had it out was looking at it earyler and i was riding it today starts no ether needed starts every time and it takes off fast but when i hit mid range on the throttle it goes smooth up to 22 23 mph any more gas it bogs out wont stall just runs sluggish although im perplexed that when the air screw is all the way in it dont stall out rite away
Otherwise might be running like crap b/c it's 20degrees there right now. What are you doing riding in snow, anyway?
BTW, if you get 25 on that scoot you'll be doing pretty well.

Iowa now is under 30 MPH, (50cc or less) or less than 750 watts.keithw wrote:It is an Iowa Spree. um hello, its an Iowa model, this site about sprees should know this: the iowa model spree has restrictors in the exhaust and smaller reedvalves and intake manifold. Get a 1986 or 87 spree muffler off ebay and you'll be doing 30 mph. And clean your carb just to be sure its clean, new spark plug too.

The intake and reeds are the same IIRC, the gearing and exhaust is different.HondaCharlie wrote:um hello, its an Iowa model, this site about sprees should know this: the iowa model spree has restrictors in the exhaust and smaller reedvalves and intake manifold. I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
But when the Spree was manufactured that was not the case. The Iowa was restricted to absolutely gutless.me4get wrote:Iowa now is under 30 MPH, (50cc or less) or less than 750 watts.keithw wrote:It is an Iowa Spree. Yea at least you can feel a standard spree hit the power band and take off.Bear45-70 wrote:But when the Spree was manufactured that was not the case.
