Check your reed valve if your Spree will not start

Post by johannpaint »

This has been covered a little in bits and pieces throughout the forums, so I figured I would condense that knowledge here. If your completely stuck, and have already cleaned, tested and gone through every aspect of spark, ohms, and carb cleaning, CHECK YOUR REEDS!
I tore apart and cleaned my carb 5 or 6 times, bought a new bystarter, petcock, and carb gasket kit. NOTHING! It would fire only with introduction of 2cycle at the spark-plug. I removed the reeds and found the previous owner had NOT cleaned gunk from carb area when he had removed it, therefore letting a TINY rock hold open one of the reeds. Along with grease, dirt and grass. Cleaned it out, put it back on and presto! She fired almost immediately!
So check your reeds if you're experiencing the above, hope this helps! javascript:emoticon(':D')

Reeds and spark plugs, they get the best of us. I kicked a dirtbike over for 5 days trying to get it running, fired up second kick with a new plug.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
