did you rejet the carb after putting the air filter on? also use carb clean and check for intake leak around the carb and intake manifold.
Nothing like getting stroked!

Yeah, definitely check the boot and don't underestimate a properly oiled filter. Mine for one was very particular with the air box setup. Sounds like shes just running a little rich.

alvin, you must have the air-box and proper filter in order to tune the carb. The engine is running away lean, thats why it slows down when he manually "chokes" it with his hand. these little engines need a restrictive intake, and a fairly restrictive exhaust to run properly. Change the balance, and you have to re-jet/tune to compensate.

1984 Honda NB50m new carb..........

Post by alvin »

Replaced the air filter with an original from Honda. Found the needle
to be bent! Seller sent me a replacement needle and valve. The original
carb had 4 tubes this one has 5. Was told that has an extra breather tube

Should I block the extra tube?

Rear Transmission Cover.

Greetings:

On the off chance you should ever need a good rear transmission cover, you can have mine - bought in error - for $10. I'll even ship it for that.

OK so it turns out that the throttle cable was NOT letting the piston and
needle drop all the way down, therefore causing the engine to rev.

She runs and idles now and am happy to announce that I can ride
her finally. She does scoot right along too!

Thanks for all your help..
