Super noob buys super bike!
I bought the scooter!
Started a new thread because I have a lot of new questions.
1.) The Taillight is on when the ignition is on, BUT there is no light to indicate when I am stopping. I see online that there are two different parts:
SKU: 34906-MG9-771
BULB, STOP & TAILLIGHT (Honda Code 1700301) (12V 27/7W)
SKU: 34906-341-671
BULB, TAILLIGHT (12V 27/8W) (Honda Code 0273540)
Do all Elite's have the same taillight? Is there a particular reason why I would have the one without the brake light>
2) What specific model do I have? SA50? Its an '01, I can't find any other available models that year.
3) There is a dent in the rear rim, can I just pound that out? I believe the wheels are tubeless, and I've pounded out the rims on my car before without breaking them, any reason to think a cross-peen hammer would be a bad solution?
4) A few of the panels are cracked, where can I get cheap panels?
5) The exhaust has a lot of rust on it. If it becomes a problem, what kind of muffler should I get that would boost power without being too noisy?
6) There is a fair amount of grease and grime around the engine and left side cover, should I be taking a look at the carburetor or not worry about it?
7) The guy was putting 2-stroke Halvoline in it, how bad is that compared to the Honda GN2? Anything I should watch out for?
Thanks, I'm going to have lots of fun with this!

The bulb issue is either that there is a single filiment bulb in there, or a dual filiment bulb and one of the filiments is broken (the 27W one, in this case). The bulbs are regular, dime a dozen bulbs you can get from any auto shop. I beleive they make heavy duty bulbs for motorcycle application, you can use those if you wish. So long as the wattages are approximately right, you'll be fine.
You should probably post the frame VIN and motor numbers if you want further details on the rest of the stuff.
Congrats!

3) There is a dent in the rear rim, can I just pound that out? I believe the wheels are tubeless, and I've pounded out the rims on my car before without breaking them, any reason to think a cross-peen hammer would be a bad solution? Take off rim first, then pound imo and NO rims are not tubeless, they have 3-10in tubes
4) A few of the panels are cracked, where can I get cheap panels? Good luck with that and let us know what u find lol
5) The exhaust has a lot of rust on it. If it becomes a problem, what kind of muffler should I get that would boost power without being too noisy? YMS or R1, search through performance posts
6) There is a fair amount of grease and grime around the engine and left side cover, should I be taking a look at the carburetor or not worry about it? How's it run? Doing 35-36mph top speed? If so your good to go
7) The guy was putting 2-stroke Halvoline in it, how bad is that compared to the Honda GN2? Anything I should watch out for? Probably fine, GN2 isn't all that great imo too much hype
Thanks, I'm going to have lots of fun with this!

Put the cheapest gas you can find in it and keep it full of GN2, also be sure to change the rear end oil annually, if you do all that it will last a long time.jzambon wrote:

They are tube tires(or should be anyways) I see no problem straitening it with a hammer.
4) A few of the panels are cracked, where can I get cheap panels?"Cheap panels"
6) There is a fair amount of grease and grime around the engine and left side cover, should I be taking a look at the carburetor or not worry about it? Its mystery grease, engine grime, dont worry about it.
7) The guy was putting 2-stroke Halvoline in it, how bad is that compared to the Honda GN2? Anything I should watch out for? Only run GN2 after the Havoline stuff runs out, most oil is alright for running though an injected air cooled engine(will say so on the bottle if it is) but GN2 doesnt produce much in the way of carbon buildup.
Thanks, I'm going to have lots of fun with this!
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
I was out having the time of my life then it started raining :'(
I don't know how you guys can spend time on these forums instead of riding your scooters, but I certainly appreciate that you do! I'm sure a little of the fun will wear off after a while.
The tires looked tubeless because the valve has a nut attached to it, thought it was tubeless, sorry.
Top speed was around 35-36mph sustained, so I'm happy if you think thats good.
I'll run out the remainder of the oil (he gave me a few quarts) and then will switch to GN2. Just get it from a Honda retailer?
Thanks again guys!

How very rude of me, I was out enjoying my new Elite so much that I forgot to answer the questions originally posed to me...
Sorry, CharlotteSpreeRider, I was able to find the VIN sticker, here is the info on my "Motor Driven Cycle":
2001 SA50
VIN: 3H1AF16091D202751
I've been enjoying my ride, but the "must go faster" nerve is starting to kick in. Variator a good place to start? Any How-To's out there with nice pics? I've been browsing and the best set I've found was here: http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7302
Thanks for the help so far!
