THE OLE SPREE, WHAT IT'LL TAKE
im sure this has been covered but im gonna ask it anyway
What motors can be easily swapped in to the spree frame?
by easily i mean cost, effort, pros vs cons... basically i wanna make a list of viable options for the spree
1: I kno everyones first answer is gonna be dio, dio, dio but lets see if we can figure out something new.
2: I was kinda thinkin maybe a ch 150d out of a elite but no clue if it works or if it would be even worth the trouble
3: Being a welder myself and growing up round racing I kno "u can put any thing into anything with a lil persuasion" but stick to the "easy" theme im talkin bolt up or minor fab work to do the swap.
4: Jus cus it hasn't been done don't mean it can't be done so lets get creative and do some research..k

Water cooled 2 stroke kart motor(gotta fit under the panels and keep cool so a free air is out of the question) on a custom swing arm, single speed chain drive.

I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
could it be done with a dual varitor kinda like a stage 2 clutch uses two plates to achieve a higher stall and better friction idk if this is possible but hey never know;; that has a centrifical clutch should hold up, and with the custom swingarm leaves the possibillity of a wider rear tire for stability
The wildest engine I saw was a YZ80 (or some such off-road 2-stroke) mated up to a CNC custom variator/clutch/rear wheel assembly. They removed the donor engine gearbox to do this. Should've put it in Adv Tech Docs... not sure where the pic is now.
Mopeds are easier to mod, they have swingarms like "normal" motorcycles so you can bolt in anything, run a chain, and you're done. Scooter require a custom swingarm/wheel assembly... PIA. A kart motor would require something like this.
A good start for a 4-stroke custom would be a Spree with a GY6 125 or 150cc air cooled motor from a Chinese scoot picked up cheap/free for parts. Problem is this won't be as fast as the wilder 2-stroke customs. I think it could be cheaper route to speed, though.

Im just messing around.
The dio is nice because its 2 stroke tuning at its best. But there is other ways...
I would be all up for a 150Gy6 swap. Those motors can kick some *. and can be bought on the cheap.

I wouldn't be surprised if a YZ80 modded like noiseguy describes would keep up or go faster.Dac wrote:kho20 wrote:and there it is lol thankyou DAC![]()

KT100 would need mods for water cooling. I really dont see the need for a CVT, these engines propel a (much heavier) kart to a good 80mph with a cent clutch.scooterwerx wrote:the honda ruckus has a modular transmission, meaning it is separate from the crankcase halves, a simple adapter would mate almost any kart engine(kt100!!!) to it...and presto, a real racing motor with CVT!!!
I was thinking of keeping the stock wheelbase too, it should all hide under the panels.
