WOT woes

Post by kho20 »

okay the problem is the lil spree starts fine decent accel hits right around 30 and then loses power feels like the bowl ran out of fuel, so i let off the throttle and hit it again fine for a second then does it again...also it only does this at load on the stand itll rev all day

i have the petcock drilled because it was workin off and on and * me off when i was tryin to tune the carb  ... i jus havent got around to installin the maunul shutoff. and as for the bystarter i kinda broke it so im pretty sure it don't work

so my question is do yall think that this much fuel flowing to the carb could be causing the problem or does it sound like a float needle/seat problem or somethin with the bystarter?? :?:

Runnin' Lean?

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

I had similar issues when my vacuum line to the petcock was iffy. I saw that your petcock was drilled but could fuel flow still be insufficient to meet demand at WOT?

The filter above the petcock can get gummy enough to slow fuel delivery. The hole in the petcock could be creating some sort of flapper valve (long shot) The fuel line clogged or kinked. The last and perhaps most likely place is a sticky float needle.

The plug color suggests lean, so I'd look for a fuel flow obstruction somewhere. Hopefully you're not running so hot that the loss of power indicates and imminent seize.

I don't think your carb is clean enough. Pull the main jet and emulsion tube, clean them out real good, and clean the well the the emulsion tube and main jet reside in. Make sure you have sufficient fuel delivery, as mentioned above. Petcock, filter, etc. I had a similar problem before, and it was resolved by cleaning out the gunk that was residing at the top of the emulsion tube, where the needle seats.

It's not the adjustment screws, they don't affect WOT operation.

Good luck!

okay new problem lol took the carb and cleaned it all up put it on and wouldn't start got to lookin at it and fuel was coming out of the overflow port,, i lossened the drain screw it started right up and rode it sucker hit right before the 35 mark so now i got rid of it starving for fuel now its too much.

so is the float pin sticking open or did i get something wrong when i went back or what ??

WOT problem: My guess is that it's struggling to 30 MPH, and then dying off to lower speed, like 15-20? That's signs of overheating due to a restricted/gummed up main jet, which it sounds like you fixed.

By the way, don't rev it on the stand like that, you can easily overheat / overrev the engine.

Overflow: Check your float valve for damage. If it looks good, use the toothpaste + Q-tip in drill to resurface the inside of the float fuel shutoff at carb.

Floating

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

The float valve resurfacing Noisy suggested is a good idea. Don't overdo it with the Q-Tip.

In my case, despite looking completely normal, I couldn't get my old float needle to work at all. Only a new one corrected the problem. Honda-san can get.
