Honda Elite 125 electrical issues

Post by rockerrock »

I have a 84 Honda Elite 125 Deluxe with a non functioning headlight, pop up headlight motor, and radiator fan. I have shorted the contacts for the radiator fan at the thermistor and the fan kicks on leading to a bad thermistor. The pop up headlight motor is broken and I plan on just keeping it up for now. I have disassembled the headlight motor and transmission and things were stuck TIGHT go I pried with a screwdriver to the screw drive gear popping out and breaking the retainer, the motor itself was seized and the fuse was blown when I got the scoot.

Now, the big issue; the non-functional headlight. I have checked the fuse, bulb, wiring, etc and still cannot get it to light in high or low. The headlight relay does indeed provide current when switching the ignition on as verified by a "click". I am thinking it could be contacts in the handlebar switch?

I already bought a inline fuse, wire, and a on-off-on switch but I still want to retain the default function of the switch, any ideas?

All comes down, I'll go get my multimeter from my friend's house and go crazy. As far as the radiator fan goes I'm going to splice inline a switch to manually control the radiator fan, might be useful regardless.

Thanks!

Someone on Seattle Craigslist is offering the headlight for $20. Good deal if s/he still has it.

Mmm. Does the headlight on that only come on with the engine? If so, could be the regulator (may be that anyway.) See if the battery is charging.

I went ahead and mounted a on off on switch (with fuse mind you) to the headlight from the battery. I plan on adding a relay so I don't accidentally keep it on. Some guy broke the stock ignition so there is a relay in the front that keeps draining power when it is off so my battery is dead the next morning. Time to find a high powered relay..
