Ok i'll try them weights. But...i have a 1k center spring :). I plan on getting a 1.5k and 2k to play with since the pg's are out of stock. I'd jump on that Scorpion if i knew for a fact my R1 is to blame. I'm going to beef up clutch first. Any idea where i can get them bearings for the center spring (like maddog sent burnt-toast and wheelman)? Or are they old school can't get any more parts?

Just curious; How do the clutch and weights can get me into my powerband? I know i'd be able to accelerate longer before variator shifts, but then when it shifts wouldn't i be out of powerband? Or...do i use the weights to tune variator to shift slower keeping me in the powerband? And where is my powerband, at a certain rpm?

Ever ride a spree? know how from 15-25 they accelerate quickly but otherwise are slower than dog s***? You want to tune the trans to keep the motor at that rpm range.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

you tune the trans to keep the engine in its powerband at all times, on most 2 strokes its pretty narrow, maybe a couple thousand rpm, so thats the trick. shift too soon, engine loads up=slow. shift too early, revving out low gear=slow. shift in the power, keep up the r's, use high gear=fast!

too soon...too early? You did mean too soon and too late right? :D

Sounds like my problem. I take off ok at wot...then get going pretty decent...then at 30-35 mph i can hear the shift and it feels and sounds like i lost alot of power=loaded-up. I can start to feel the r's right around 50 mph. I got it.

I also confirmed my R1 is the bigger 28mm designed for 72-82cc so it should be ok till i can get better.

Thanks for the replies, now it's all making sense. Anyone know of a tach that will work on 2-strokes? Sounds like it might be easier to tune with one.

Greetings:

Design Technology website sells Tiny Tach for $35. I would spring for the $60 Commercial model as it updates faster. Install requires only a ground wire. You wrap the spark plug wire with the sensor.

Disadvantages: can't see at night. Finite internal battery life.
