Oil Pump Set Plate?

Post by Midwinter »

Hi all.

Yesterday, while coming home from work, my '85 Aero suddenly died and wouldn't crank. I pushed it home and took it apart to find that the oil pump was DANGLING OUT OF THE CRANK CASE.

Seriously.

It seems that someone, at some point (not me) removed the oil pump set plate and never put it back on, which means that my oil pump has been slowly wiggling its way out of the crank case for the two seasons I've had this thing.

Here's the deal:

1) I can't see what the set plate attaches to, and the service manual is unclear. Does anyone have a picture of theirs to share?

2) bikebandit doesn't sell the set plate anymore, apparently. Can anyone tell me where I might find one?

If I can't find one, this might just be the excuse I was looking for to buy my neighbor's Met II.

Thanks in advance.

I may have a set plate for you free of charge once I find out about getting a plug for my pump. It will be a week or 2 till I get mine but just wanted to give you a heads up.

the plate just holds all the wires and such, the oil pump is held on by a bolt that threads into a nut held captive by the casting. theres a small slot under where the oil pump goes in, a nut goes in there, and the bolt goes through the hole in the pump. hard to explain, im sure someone has a picture of this.
