Carb problems

Post by spoch »

86 NQ 50 spree.

Just rebuilt the carb for the third time. Problem is take off. At idle runs fine. Take off bogs and slowly builds speed with the occ bucking. At about 5 mph smooths out and runs like a top. If you do not come to a complete stop, no bogging and smooth through out. Any help to solve this problem? Next step is going to be all new jets, set screws, float, and float valve. Could this be a cable hanging up? seems that if you twist/push back on the grip idle drops. thanks for the help

Yeah, check the plug.

Oh - by the way - the scooter in your avatar is arguably one of the most interesting vehicle designs I've come across. I'd say it's an ideal candidate for a methane gas conversion. :P

Well the plug I took out was light brown and wet. I put it in when I bought the spree three weeks ago. I did run it before the carb rebuild, so I don't know if it was lean or rich prior to carb rebuild. The first plug I pulled was dark brown with crusting on it. I put a new plug in after the rebuild but haven't checked it yet. I think it might be a cable sticking or the needle valve is bad. I can see indent marks on it from being over tightened. I might as well get new set screws while Im at it. Does any after market company sell a rebuild kit with every thing? Thanks for the help and I just found that picture. It's better then the first one I had up. I think I'm going through a second childhood here. 39 and buying sprees. They look good next to the mustang and harley though.

You should be able to buy rebuild kits from the dealer.
