Jet Size

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Jet sizes don't apply when you switch carb models/sizes. You might actucally need a larger jet than 85 in the bigger carb. The engine inhales the same amount of air through a much larger venturi = less negative pressure over the jet =need a larger-sized jet to deliver sufficient fuel.

I'm not sure that honker carb was the right call for 65cc. Hope I'm wrong.

the jdm af28 carb isnt that much larger than a stock carb, the slide is actually close to if not the same size, its just the inlet is larger. i would definitely still upjet it, to at least the jet polini includes...the cylinder is easy to install, just reverse the process of disassembly and be generous with the oil on break in!

Lookin' Good

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Nice work. I noticed something in your pics that makes me take back my previous post about the ZX Carb. Measure the carb throats on the o-ring sides and let me/us know what you find?

Adaptitution

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

The oddball 3-petal reed from the '87 DJ fills the gap but still takes the SA16 manifold, at least on mine it did. Not sure if the design provides the best flow, but it fills in all the cracks and works at least as well as the original mani - which points the carb mouth at the shock.

Perusing parts fiches and switching from NB50 Aero, SE50 and SA50 Elites in '87-'88 US model years is very informative. Someone said the '88 reed block serves as a bridge adaptor between old/new and I think that's correct.

does polini base dio gasket fit on se50 block?

All of the holes lined up so I'm thinking yes but I'll take a pic of the gasket on the block for you this weekend.

This is an SE50 engine. I used the same oddball reeds that wheelman has. They are 3 petal ones off of the Super Dio manifold. They look to be carbon too but not 100% sure. They definately arent metal.

I also just got the Dio cable (thanks evilone) that slides into the cap but I noticed that it doesnt clip into place or anything which I thought was weird. It stays held up @ the carb top just by the tension of the spring between the slide and the top? I went ahead and raised the needle to the bottom notch which should have me @ the richest setting. Thats what the Polini BBK instructions said to do.
