this kit will fit on the elite e also. I looked for a variator off one of my honda pals and it did not work on the spree. There are two engines on pal one with a longer crank shaft. That is the one with the variator. The other pal has the same single peice like the spree. Too bad

I'm not sure there's enough room to make one fit.toboggan wrote:Would it be possible to try and machine a new variator?
What's the smallest off-the-shelf variator out there? I've heard the Express had a small one.

Do you know if the crankshaft is the only difference between the 2 Pal motors?

Like I said one of the pals(AF12 is model number not engine number)) has a extra wide kick starter cover and a longer crankshaft(on variator side) so that honda could use a variator with rollers in it, but everthing else is identical to the the elite e. Now the the other pal engine is identical to the elite e engine. I have a pal but it is the has the shorter crank shaft. That sux. Now the pal engine will easily fit on the spree. the motor is just a touch longer, but that is the only difference.
And yes you can use a pal crankshaft in a spree no problem at all. As long as it is the short one.

Re: h
I know what you're thinking; keep in mind you'll need to run down a sidecover, parts of the starting assembly, and then need to modify the clutch to accept the whole thing. Most of these would be hard-to-find Pal parts. KeithW went down this path briefly and concluded, like most of us, that it's just easier to swap in a more commonly available Elite engine.Clivester wrote: Marc:

?????spree variator and aero50 bore kits????????????
I am sending two spree engines to two of my parts makers this week. I will see if they can find a variator that will work on the spree. Don't get to excited because there is hardly any room for a variator. I am also trying to get some 44mm aero 50 kits in. Does anyone make a 47mm for the aero 50? What is the biggest bore kit for the aero 50?
Biggest bore kit is 65cc, so whatever that works out to with the factory stroke. Spree should be able to accept the same size (65cc) with case porting to match the cylinder.
Variator will be very limited throw: something like 0.1", which is all the the factory starter ring will take given the factory pulley bevel. This is based on my measurement of the maximum amount that can be removed from the larger steel '87 inner pulley. This inner pulley pretty much uses up all the packaging space; a variator would have to be around the same size. It would still be better than what is on there currently. Keep in mind you'll also need to come up with a new rear main clutch spring.

47mm
yah there's not much room for a variater. As to the cylinder, there should be no reason not to get a 47mm for this casted. As stated prior the cylinder will be bigger and there might be some serious shroud fabrication. well c.
