Throttle valve disassembly on a 1988 Elite HELP!!!
While cleaning the carb on the Elite i took out the Throttle Valve to shoot some compressed air down the hole. I put the Valve in backwards by mistake then installed it the right way. The Scooter runs too rich now and i took out the Throttle Valve and the clip is'nt sitting right inside the spring. How do i get the Throttle Valve apart so i can reset it to the 2nd notch? Is there some kind of trick to it, i'm very mechanically inclined but i can't figure this one out! HELP i'm trying to get this beast on the road ASAP.

You have to "walk" the spring with your fingers and compress it all the way under the throttle cap. Hold it there with one hand while you pull all the slack in the cable you can. It helps to grow a few extra fingers, but if you can pinch the cable to keep it from sliding back into the casing, you sort of "unhook" it from the throttle slide. There's a big hole to insert, then it moves over into a detent that traps the barrel end.
The first few times the spring usually tries to make a break for it. Invariably it rolls under the nearest water heater or seeks the dank darkness of the storm drain. Sometimes it just vanishes into thin air.
It's important to handle all of this gently - like you might handle camera parts. Careless or forceful handling can bend the needle. The throttle slide must engage a little round pin in its bore. You can force it down, and it's sometimes tempting to do so. However this ensures the slide will no longer glide through its full travel, and require even more careful attention to determine and correct the cause of the hangup.

You have been down this road before. Followed your instructions to the letter and Scooter running like a top. Keeper came out and needle was moving up and down. I will name my first tank of synthetic 2 stroke oil after you. A million thanx.
