NB50M (1984 Aero) Won't tune worth anything. Every day I have to re-tune the carb messing with the screws. The exhaust seemed a little loose today so I tightened her back up. Started it up with the panels still off and when I put my foot down after kicking it I felt air blowing against my leg. Upon further examination it appears to be air escaping from the head. I just wanted to check and see if we can all agree that there's an exhaust washer missing or something? Any other likely problems? Would this problem keep me from getting my idle right and having the carb tuned for longer than one ride around the block?
Also any thoughts on the possibility of a washer from another bike fitting? 84 Aeros aren't the most popular of bikes on eBay. I've never even seen one of those washers sell. Can I get a replacement at the hardware store?? (Oh please say yes! )
A leaky exhaust port will make it impossible to tune. It'll also drip an oily sludge down towards the oil pump.
See if your Honda dealer can get one. I suspect the Spree or later Aero ones will be close. Visit MrCycles.com to look up the part number.

My Aero was missing one as well and I tried a paper gasket at first, but it burned out pretty quickly. While waiting for the Honda one to arrive, I put in a thin slice of 1" copper pipe that I had made dead soft by heating with a propane torch to red heat and quenching. It's working so well that I never put the honda one in.

There's a shroud over the head that has a kind of scoop on it on the side with the kickstart (so left if youre on the bike) it seems to be coming from right in that area.
That would be the outlet for your fan-forced air cooling. Sorry I thought you were getting exhaust gas leaking. The fan air comes out pretty hot too, but if it's not dripping oil and you can breathe it for over a minute without loss of consciousness, you're OK.
I once rolled my own gasket from copper wool - you can get it at the paint department of any Home store. It wasn't quite airtight, but close. Easier than annealing old copper pennies.
