1986 Aero 50 start/idle/running issues

Post by jeepvolks »

I have the Aero running great at full speed. It doesnÔÇÖt stutter or stall at a continuous 35mph. However, at idle, it runs at a fair idle for about 10 seconds and then drops down to where it barely runs for about 10 seconds. It will go through this cycle as long as you let it sit on the kickstand and run. IÔÇÖm thinking maybe the float valve might be leaking? IÔÇÖm planning on ordering a rebuild kit for it as a means of eliminating possible small parts. It starts pretty quick after sitting for a while, but acts like itÔÇÖs flooded when you shut it off and then try to start it back up soon after. Uugg! Any suggestions?

If the valve is letting too much gas into the carb you can test that by draining the carb a bit while it is running. If that makes the engine run better then you know it is the valve.

Another possibility is your idle jet in the carb. It may need cleaning or replacing.
