Newb Question: Sterio on 86 Spree

Post by The General Spree »

Im a new member and asking about what kind of electronics I need to put on my completely stock spree for a car sterio.

Im also about to be 14 and just rebuilt it, it runs great and i would really like to put a sterio on it. Any Suggestions?

Why do people want stereos on scooters? Am I the only one who regularly uses my hearing as a defensive driving tool? (If you're too busy blasting Creedence or Pearl Jam, how would you hear the guy coming up on you too fast who doesn't even see you?)

Your very right for that scenario but im 14 and i probably will not be going on a road where that high of a speed is possible and wont be jamming loud unless im with some friends unless

Well, there is always the "thinning the herd" option.

There simply is not enough power to run a car radio. Any accessory like that will need to be run on its own battery pack.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Here's an illustrative comparison:

Two Wheeler 'A': - rides Honda AspenCade, replete with big honkin' hard bagz, big * fairing, big * motor, plus similar dimension * in suitably sized seat. Bike has 12 antennas, 2 GPS, intercom hookup, bottle opener, camping tent deployment gear, and a surround sound speaker array driven by an 800 watt NuklearPowerStroke(tm) amp.

Two Wheeler 'B' - rides Hondasan Spree, replete with luggage rack and helmet hook.

Now, logic suggests TwoWheeler 'B's' ride lacks the physical real estate to mount an iPod let alone a NuKlearPowerStroke(tm) amp. Hence, one might argue this is an advantage, because unlike Two Wheeler 'A', TwoWheeler 'B' appreciates the simpler things in life.

Hope this helps. :D

Dan, were you quoting Socrates on that?
I must be getting old. (that's a given). When I'm on my scooter, I've got one goal... enjoying the ride. I don't need music. In fact, while on return trip from our vacation, we stopped at motel at a wide spot in the road for the night and unloaded the scoots for a ride in the country while we had a little daylight left. Objective: enjoy the ride, enjoy the scenary, enjoy the country.

Now then, when I was 14, our scoots were the Cushman Husky and Allstate by Sears. Transistor radios had not come out yet, much less surround sound.

I agree with you Dan, but enjoyment like beauty is in the eyes, or ears, of the beholder. I wont be riding in the country, to enjoy it, lunytunes. Dan, also an advantage is an opinion, therefore it cannot be intelligently argued.

I respect everyones opinion about the subject. Thank you for the feedback!

Oh, we'll still luv ya General Spree... Just thoughts from an old sage. With the wind blowing in my ears and the hum of the 2 stroker, I wouldn't hear the music anyway.

But there is another more important point that will make your decision. The power supply is not all that great, just enough to operate the system and trickle some recharge into the battery. Voltage will be around 14.5 but amperage will be something like 3 amps, not enough to run the scooter/with lights plus your sound system.

I'm wanting to hook up an outlet for GPS/Navigator on my scoots. But that's pretty low amp draw.

Yeah, what Helmet hook? I've got one on my Helix but never seen one on a 49er.

Right where the seat attaches to the gas tank.
