86 Spree won't start after extensive repairs. Spark good.

Post by coolgangsta24 »

My dad recently stumbled across this 86 spree in a metal scrap dumpster behind where he works. He brought it home and I've been working on it. It had a bad engine bearing. I took it apart, cleaned all the metal out of the crankcase, and it back together, only it won't turn over. I have good compression (I replaced all the gaskets, and piston rings with the bearing and tried the "thumb test"), a good spark (got shocked a couple of times by holding the plug while kick starting), the carb float is good, fuel is getting to the carb, tested bystarter ohms and that is good as well.

I tried spraying WD-40 into the cylinder, put the spark plug back on and it still wouldn't turn over. I put new oil in, but I didn't do gas. I have no idea how long the gas has been in there. Should I change it?

Any ideas or help is appreciated. Thanks!

Clean the carb. Clean it really good. Follow the guide to cleaning your carb in Tech docs.
Definately clean out the fuel tank and fuel strainer then replace with fresh gas.
Do not spray wd-40 into the cylinder. That is a big no-no! Throw a capful or 2 of fresh GN-2 (Honda's 2 stoke oil) into the cylinder to relubricate it then to try to get it started drop a few capfuls of gas down the spark plug hole. Install spark plug then see if it wants to fire.
Good luck

Ok, I cleaned the carb, and replaced the fuel. Still no luck. I took off the cylinder head and cleaned off the carbon deposits, still no luck. Messed with both of the fuel adjustment screws (the air and gas ones on the carb), and still no luck. I'm running out of ideas here.

I tried jump starting it (I don't have a battery for it) and the most I got was 1 fire at once during 20 mins of cranking. I got about 10 fires in all but I think it was on an extremely lean mix.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I GOT IT RUNNING! I blew some compressed air through the muffler. Must have been something in there but I didn't see it come out.
