1986 Honda Aero probs. HELP!

Post by the496rocket »

I an restoring an 86 Honda Aero 50, and I got it running today, It started right up with the electric start, and I cleaned out the engine, with it in the air, and then all of a sudden it died. It wont start with the electric start, it just tries, it will start with a good hard kick of the kickstarter, but wont idle. It will run fine when it gets going, but it will come to an idle and die, and you can barely get it started again. I was thinking maybe my oil pump was bad, cause it didnt use any oil so "I got a different one, and when I take the hose going to the intake, from the pump, there is no oil coming out. How does the oil pump work? It had this same problem about a month ago, and it was a stuck ring. Got new rings, ran good with premix for a long time, now just running it for 2 minutes with just the pump, it is doing the same thing. I know nothing about tuning these things, or jet cleaning or location. Please help me, I am starting to lose hope of this thing ever running good anymore. Oh, it has about 800 miles, with no tuneups. Thanks greatly for any help.

check your idle screw on your carb. make sure your air filter is clean, and try running it without the air box lid, and without the exhaust pipe.

I think it might be low compression, I saw another post about hard starting when warm, which is like mine, and i think compression is low. I has run for a time with no oil pump working, and with that kind of miles, the cylinder is probably worn bad right? I should get a new one, It also had very low power even with fresh rings. also, how does the oil pump work? where does oil enter the engine? Also what would I gain if i went to 70 or 80CC?

You might find a 65cc piston (45mm diam) that will fit. If you do, let us know where you got it.
