This is my Elite 50 scoot at age 14 in 1987.
This is the day I got it!! Look at how purdy it was. My 86 Aero I just bought looks like a nightmare compared to it. Dig my first car in the backround I later acquired from my Dad. A 1972 Chevy Impala also known as the "hooptie"
freekin killer....love the whole setup. wow your parents let you ride a scooter around at 14?? id gotten my tail woooped

All the kids at 14 in the subdivision had them. We drove around in packs trying always to alude the police. Sprees at the time I remember like it was yesterday were advertised in the newspaper for as low as $395.00. I had a add up to a few years ago but cant seem to find it now. My Elite was $575 and it blew all the sprees away .
wow that is cool
i got my spree 86 in 90 and loved it ever since
do you still have your elite?

It was different times back then. Today you can't buy a new Honda scoot for under $2300 new and back then you could for $400. I realize the worth of the dollar has changed BUT there is no reason that Honda can't come out with something like a Spree for todays kids that would cost around $1000. Parents might consider it for that cost but would never for over $2300.The Honda Met and Ruck are not for a 14 or 15 year olds where the Spree being smaller seemed at the time like it was.
Its a liability/safety thing, the stupidity of the majority of today's drivers along with the stupidity of the majority of today's kids would make a lot of dead kids riding their new Honda Spree IIs.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

As far a liability its the same now as it was then.....There were bad drivers then, just like now... When my kid turns 14 I will let him ride one like my Dad let me. Just keep off the main roads and stay in subdivisons and he will be fine.
By the way.... We were once the stupid kids your speaking about!!!! Kids haven't changed we have... and laws are a whole lot stricter now then they were then. Get caught for instance drinking and driven in 1987 and it was a slap on the wrist and now its loss of license, fines or even jail time.
