I have a real H4 housing from a newer elite. The bulb plugs in fine. It would be pretty hard to get a good mounting service out of a non-H4 housing.
The bracket to mount the headlight into the headset is what I don't have, so I used 20 zip ties (exaggerating, probably only like 16) to mount the new light.
So with a bright blue H4 bulb my whole headlight housing looks a cool blue It does get hot though, but I haven't had voltage problems.

Ya just a bulb at autozone is all you need for the tail. but the headlight is a different story. i have not needed to replace mine yet but if i do i will probly do the DRILL out the sealed bulb thing and put a killer blue bulb in it.

Are you suggesting the taillight is same as the 1157 we used on auto/truck for 50+ years before invention of halogen and LED? I pulled the bulb from the 2001 Elite and it looks exactly the same as 1157, but different numbers. I'm wondering if Japan & Asia used the 1157
Why don't you shop eBay for the h4 setup? I've seen 99 model headlights on ebay recently.
says it will work in the metro and helix and rukus

Glass? Well, anyway. Some people are a glutton for punishment.
Yes, the bulb is glass.
However where you cut the plug off of the end of the bulb, that part is metal. Wrap the light up nice and good in a towel with just the plug sticking out, take a hacksaw and just cut it right off.
Wear gloves and a pair of safety glasses if anybody else decides to do the same.
I do not suggest that just anybody grabs a light bulb and just goes and cuts it open, put some thought into it and make sure you are safe in case something does go wrong. I have a pretty decent mechanical aptitude, with a degree in Industrial Engineering/Mechanical Machining.

I agree with this, I was going to see about maybe putting the bulb in and just using some good ole JB Weld to hold it in there. I was just interested in a blue tinted light as you have with your newer composite style light. And if the bulb burned out down the road, I would just chuck it in the garbage as it was a junk bulb to begin with when i cut mine.
Yeah, the blue look is cool. I'm pretty sure I have a higher wattage bulb so it gets kinda hot, but the high beam filament is burnt out so I just keep my switch on high, which turns the headlight off.
I have a new bulb on order from jiangwayne (d*** you long shipping) and I'll compare them to each other. This was one of the first mods I did (back in 2004) to my bike so I forget where I got the housing/light.

Yes - you can make that work, there are folks that *have* to do this operation. Some 6v scooters with non-available replacements have been breaking out the back of the bulb, and replacing with a halogen. Its still a good project when doing is more fun than buying.
Couple ideas:
Improvise some sort of focusing adjustment, it will make tuning the assembly convenient
Socket the bulb for the future
Bulb/socket can get pretty hot, might want to make the focusing and mounting in metal, to act as a heatsink. then JB weld if still needed where it's cooler
dang, sorry for not replying to any of this stuff. but yeah i've heard that it can be done. turning the stock sealed beam headlight to become a changable light bulb. i just want something little bit brighter and that h4 coversionsounds like the perfect thing to do for my lights to be brighter.

I haven't pulled the JDM bulb, so can't say, but it doesn't look like the 2001 Elite headlight at all. It is built on a 90 and has three prongs instead of two contact points. The taillight looks like an 1157 automotive bulb.
the tail light is a 1157 but for your JDM dio sr the headlight might be the one pictured.

I had responded to your other thread while winding my way back here.
I pulled my headlight today, as now both beams are dead. The JDM, at least on mine, has 3 lock tabs, whereas it appears that the one you show only has one and it is different. It looks like what parts man showed me for ATV. This is an auto parts store. I've got to go to Hondasan Monday on other items, so I'll check there.
The taillight on JDM is also totally different... cost $6. The parts man said although the Elite may look like an 1157, it may be metric and not fit. But 1157 bulbs are cheap and usable on other things so... what the heck.
