can you elaborate on this? is it like the case filled with real oil and then congealed while sitting and now it is getting sucked up and out while at the same time eliminating the spark? the starter fluid is not always bad for 2 strokes: as long as the cylinder is still being oiled then it is fine, it is bad if the cylinder is run dry...a common misconception...if this substance is oil based, I would flush it with gasoline to get it out of the motor. then you will have to kick the * out of it to pump it all out because you would fry the electric starter otherwise.wikked_spree57 wrote:sticky black goo on the plug.

Re: Before I give up for good...
Was just about to post this about the oil to give you "fake" compression......Clivester wrote:One way to test if its compression - remove the plug and add about a teaspoon of 2-stroke oil (no more than that) and gently turn over the engine to distribute it. Replace the plug and try to start again. If it starts more easily, its likely compression (you'll get a burst of smoke).
I had problems like this when I put new rings on the old glazed bore (old rings were almost gone....)
I had bad compression still with the new rings until I honed the cylinder to deglaze it.
Then it has ran great ever since.
Re: Before I give up for good...
Dun looked at similar situation on another scoot, $200 for the scoot, $685 for shipping. No way. I've got more than I can handle right now.Lunytune - If you'd like to send $200 plus shipping she's all yours.

crosshatching is important. the only time I don't do it is on playbikes-we rebuild them after a couple hours so there is never any glazing.capturedbyrobots wrote:I had bad compression still with the new rings until I honed the cylinder to deglaze it.

Re: Before I give up for good...
So you think maybe my rings are fine and if I hone out the cylinder lightly it might run again?
See, even though I know enough to get myself in trouble about a Spree, and can almost dismantle/rebuild with my eyes closed, every time I get stuck, upset and all * off it turns out to be a learning experience. I have a buddy who's got a brake hone. Will that work? If so, I will go see him today and borrow it up.

Re: Before I give up for good...
bring it over and we can hone it, or first do a compression test. let me know.

I would dude but I don't have a way to get it over there. I got my friend's brake hone, so we'll see what happens.

Re: Before I give up for good...
I found the problem today.

I'm not rebuilding this POS motor. 25mph isn't fast enough as it is, so I think I'll just re ring and gasket my 150 motor, find a place to mount a radiator, and go to town and make her four stroke extreme.

Re: Before I give up for good...
Might want to watch that carb. If the case was filling up with gas like you said, it means the float was bad too.

Re: Before I give up for good...
UPDATE the guy I got the Spree from (good buddy of mine) gave me his spare motor. She's up and running again!
DW, the motor you suspected weak compression on (the one with the flywheel problem) is on my bike and running! Compression seems alright, it fired right up.

Re: Before I give up for good...
Like I said the motor fired up but not on the dime. It took some time, I don't know why, I blew out the starter cranking it so much. But, I took it off the stand, and after a half hour of frustration, gave it 3 or 4 swift kicks and away she went. I just went outside after it sit for 2 hours, first kick she took right off. I'm very pleased, for now. We'll see how tomorrow goes when I can put a few miles on it.

Re: Before I give up for good...
What did you use to hone it with? I'm looking at hones on ebay right now. I"d like to come up with some kind of universal hone, one that would cover more than one application. My engines range from 39mm to 50mm, but I feel sure I can find a universal hone for 39-43mm.capturedbyrobots wrote:I had bad compression still with the new rings until I honed the cylinder to deglaze it.

Re: Before I give up for good...
Buy a Brake hone with brake cylinder stones. They're real fine, so they won't score the cylinder. It opens up pretty big, looks like about 3 maybe 3 1/4 inches.
