Honda Spree Oil

Post by ridid44 »

Hi,

My 96 Spree is low on oil so I went out to find the recommended 2 stroke injection oil. I looked everywhere but no luck. Is there any specific place I can get it. I checked my local Honda store but they closed right as i got there and wont open till Monday.

Is there any other oil that works?

Thanks
Riley

There is a good thread about oil in the Advanced Tech Doc. section(oddly named Oil Thread).Maybe some good dirt bike oil (be sure it states it's for injection) from the auto parts store. That can get you by till you can score the premo stuff.Remember to ride safe, you don't want to be a hood ornament on the next 18 wheeler flying down the road.Carp

Sorry,

Before I posted I checked in the "Tech Docs" and thought if its not there why would it be in the "Advanced Tech Docs"

Anyway, sence I already posted I have another question.

My dad picked up V-Twin 4 Cycle Motorcycle Oil I dont think it will work. But will it work?

NO! Must be 2 stroke air cooled injection oil.

No you are not suppose to mix it with your gas if your oil pump is working. You better wait and get 2 stroke injector oil. Just google 2 stroke injector oil and several brands come up. One is Bel ray which is the cheapest. It is made specifically for 2 stroke scooters with an oil injection system on it. Using the wrong oil such as 2 cycle oil for boat motors, chainsaws, weed wackers, etc. is not good for your spree engine. It will cause excess carbon buildup in your cylinder head and exhaust. Listen to me now or pay for it later. Its up to you.

I successfully use ESSO easymix it is a synthetic oil that is reasonably priced and you can also use it as pre-mix which I have done after a new top end just for alittle bit more lube during break-in period.Peace.

Depends. If you bought it from the chainsaw section, little doubt it is pre-mix. But if you bought it in the oil section, reread the label to make sure. I've bought oil at Walmart that states for either injection or pre-mix.

In a pinch, mix a little in the tank and go on. You will survive. But good to get the injection system going too.

i wouldnt use that blue stuff from walmart one its too thick, two it makes it smoke, and three its just the wrong stuff its not an injector oil. i went to my local action motor sports(honda) dealer and picked up a quart of spectro 2T 2 stroke/injector oil. its like 8.00 a quart but it will be well worth it in the long run. besides that walmart stuff could gum up the works.

It's always good to cut to the chase, isn't it? Too much rumor out there.

I'm reading directly from the blue Walmart bottle, Super Tech brand
High quality ashless
Can be used in either premixed or variable-ratio oil injection systems.
May be used in lawn mowewrs, motorcycles, chain saws and snowmobiles.
Anti-gel formulation will not separate out or clog injector screens.

All that and more from the back of the container. Also gives the ratios, again stating "variable ratio oil injection system: no premix required.

That wouldn't put all that stuff on there and expose them to litigation if they couldn't back it up.

See for yourself. Open the top end and see what it looks like in there with that cheap oil...
